There are a few customers saying if they can only renew their car insurance for a period of 6 months. I think the reason why they wanted to renew their car insurance for only 6 months is because they intend to renew their road tax for 6 month too. This could be because they have plan to sell off the car in the next few months, thus, only wanted to renew insurance for 6 month.
When your road tax expired, you have the option of renewing for 6 months or 12 months. But for car insurance, when you renew/purchase your insurance, especial from a different agent, or insurance company, the minimum period of coverage is 12 months. Thus, if you only wanted 6 month of insurance coverage, just for your 6 month of road tax, then, the only way is to do an extension of your existing policy.
As you cannot renew for any period less then 12 month, you will then have to do an extension. Extension is only possible with your existing insurer. If your existing policy is with Allianz, then look for your previous agent and ask for extension of your insurance. If you cannot locate your previous agent, then you will have to contact the Head Office directly for help.
Extension of insurance policy is common when you have the issue of your road tax not tally with your insurance anniversary date. So, you can do an extension of your policy to match the date of your road tax, thereafter, your road tax and insurance anniversary date matched for annual renewal.
Hope this information helps.
